Juniper Networks JNP-QSFP-40G-LX4 Compatible QSFP+ 40GBASE-LX4 1310nm 2km DOM Duplex LC/UPC SMF/MMF Optical Transceiver Module

The QSFP+ module is designed for use in 40GBASE Ethernet throughput up to 150m over OM3 multimode fiber (MMF) and 2km over single mode fiber (SMF) using a wavelength of 1310nm via duplex LC connectors. This transceiver is compliant with QSFP+ MSA and IEEE 802.3ba 40GBASE-LM4 standard. Digital diagnostics functions are also available via the I2C interface, as specified by the QSFP+ MSA, to allow access to real-time operating parameters. With these features, this easy to install, hot swappable transceiver is suitable to be used in various applications, such as data centers, high-performance computing networks, enterprise core and distribution layer applications.

Q: Is the QSFP-LX4-40G module suitable for OM1 fiber, or do we have to order a different product there?
A: Our recommendation is to use OM3 patch cable, which can reach 150m transmission distance, using OM1 patch cable will shorten this distance significantly.
Q: Could you confirm if 40G LX4 can be used as the equivalent module for 40G BD?
A: Yes, LX4 can replace BD modules for transmission distance and performance over MMF networks and they both have dual LC connectors. Besides, LX4 can also be used in single mode networks.
Q: I am looking for 40G modules that can support both singlemode and multimode transmission, is this module right for my needs?
A: Yes, this module is what you want, and it can transmit 150M on OM3, 150M on OM4, and 2KM on SMF.
Q: Is it ok to link QSFP+ LX4 modules to BD modules?
A: NO, you should use them in pairs.
Q: What cable type is needed for the 40G LX4 transceivers?
A: You can use it with either duplex single mode jumpers or multimode jumpers with LC/UPC connectors. For example, single mode OS2 and Multimode OM4.
