In Fibre Channel, optical fiber is the primary transmission medium and is primarily responsible for transmitting optical signals from the sender to the receiver. The main types of optical fibers are single-mode optical fibers and multi-mode optical fibers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fiber_optic_transceivers\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fiber optic transceivers<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fiber optic transceiver, also known as optical converter, is an Ethernet transmission media conversion unit that interchanges short-distance twisted-pair electrical signals with long-distance optical signals. In Fibre Channel, the main function of a fiber optic transceiver is to convert electrical signals into optical signals for long-distance transmission, and at the same time, it can convert the received optical signals into electrical signals and input them to the receiving end, so as to ensure the smooth transmission of data packets in Fibre Channel.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fiber_optic_switches\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fiber optic switches<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Fibre Switch in Fibre Channel, also known as a Fibre Channel switch or SAN (Storage Area Network) switch, is a high-speed network transmission relay device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fibre_Channel_topology\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fibre Channel topology<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The optical channel standard defines three different topologies, which are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Point-to-point\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Point-to-point<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This architecture defines a bidirectional connection between two devices and cannot support three or more devices. It allows for a dedicated point-to-point connection between the server and the storage device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Arbitrated_loop\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Arbitrated loop<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A one-way loop is defined that allows more than two devices to communicate and communicate over a shared bandwidth, but only two devices can exchange data with each other at any one time.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Switching_networks\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Switching networks<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Providing multiple point-to-point connections through link-layer switching, it essentially defines a network in which multiple devices can exchange data simultaneously using full bandwidth. A switched network requires one or more Fibre Channel switches to be connected together to form a control center between endpoint devices.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fibre_Channel_port_type\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fibre Channel port type<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"N-port\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">N-port<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Describes the ability of a port to join a switched network topology or point-to-point topology as an endpoint device (e.g., server, storage device).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"F-port\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">F-port<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The F-port is the docking point of the N-port in the Fibre Channel switch and is responsible for passing the data frames sent by the N-port to the target endpoint device.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"L-port\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">L-port<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Describes the ability of a port to join an arbitrated loop topology as an endpoint device.
